call for submissions

The InkWire invites submissions for its second issue, which focuses on Indigenous life in Canada. This issue seeks to move beyond static or romanticized representations of Indigenous “culture,” and instead engage Indigenous experiences as living, evolving realities shaped by history, law, land, and contemporary power.

We are particularly interested in work that centers Indigenous perspectives — whether through analysis, storytelling, reflection, or dialogue. Submissions may address, but are not limited to, the following themes:

  • Indigenous sovereignty, land, and treaty relations in British Columbia

  • The legacy of colonialism and its present-day consequences

  • Law, governance, and Indigenous rights

  • Language, memory, and cultural continuity

  • Art, literature, and cultural production as forms of resistance

  • Reconciliation: its promises, limits, and lived realities

  • Indigenous identity in contemporary Canadian society

We welcome submissions in a variety of forms, including:

  • Essays and analytical writing

  • Personal narratives and reflections

  • Interviews and conversations

  • Creative nonfiction, poetry, and visual work

While submissions from all writers are welcome, we especially encourage Indigenous writers and creators to submit. We recognize that no single issue can represent the diversity of Indigenous experiences, and we approach this issue with humility, care, and a commitment to listening.
